May Picnic at Porta Posnania. The 5th anniversary of opening. May 1st and 3rd 2019

 

As we celebrate the 5th birthday of Porta Posnania, we would like to thank you for the time we have spent together and invite you to our two-day Picnic! The theme of this year’s Picnic was inspired by the multicultural heritage of Poznań. An anniversary like this is a perfect opportunity to integrate, resolve conflicts, have fun and overcome barriers – including the language barriers. Therefore, some of our events will be available for the English- and Russian-speaking guests. We will discover together what nationalities have lived in Poznań and affected its history, and we will show you that you yourselves have great impact on the city as well!

 

 

The schedule:

 

May 1st (Wednesday)

 

  • 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m./ Vinyl craze – vinyl records fair / PL/ ENG/ RU.

Vinyl records-lovers do not need to be encouraged to come! This year you will have the opportunity to buy vinyl records for 5 zł (a special offer for our 5th birthday!). You will also find a special collection of records from around the world.

 

  • 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m./  A tree of transnational friendship – plaiting and knitting event/ PL/ ENG.

We will try various braiding, knitting, crocheting techniques with the help of the girls from the Pikotki Crew. We will use the outcome of our work to decorate a tree of friendship by the river. You do not need any previous experience – all you need is to be open-minded and have fun.

 

  • 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m./ Pop-up museum – Putting down roots/ PL/ ENG/ RU.

Come and visit our incredible pop-up museum! The aim of the installation is to discover the beauty of roots and the symbolic meaning behind them. All of the objects presented at the museum have been formed by nature, however the way we interpret them depends on everyone who visits.

 

  • 12:00 p.m-5:00 p.m./ Food of the world/ PL/ ENG/ RU.

Those who are hungry for the tastes from around the world will be interested in our Food area. This year we will try dishes from around the world! Among the chefs you will find those who have come from faraway lands to cook for the inhabitants of Poznań!

 

  • 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m./ Konstanty Żupański’s Second-hand Bookshop – book fair/ PL/ ENG/ RU.

Konstanty Jan Żupański was Greek but his parents moved to Poznań. Many important books, not only by Polish writers, were published thanks to his efforts. Today, he is the patron of a second-hand bookshop at ul. Paderewskiego. You are more than welcome to visit the bookshop’s stand at our Picnic.

 

  • 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m./ Migrant Info Point – information point/ PL/ ENG/ RU.

Migrant Info Point welcomes all foreigners looking for information and support. You will learn what kind of issues MIP helps foreigners with as well as what kind of events are organized for foreigners.

 

  • 12:30 p.m./ What is the Indian Holi Festival about? – workshop/ PL/ ENG.

The workshop will be run by Harsh who will treat us to the traditional Indian sweets served at the Holi Festival. He will also tell us the story behind the Festival and invite us to a Hindu dance and a colourful play!

 

  • 1:00 p.m./ / WenDo – workshop for women/ PL/ ENG/ RUS.

Magda Szewciów and Lena Bielska, who are experienced WenDo trainers, invite all women to a workshop which will teach you how to stop feeling helpless and vulnerable, how to react to violence and how to enhance your confidence and self-esteem.

 

  • 1:00 p.m. / The Royal-Imperial Route on wheels – bicycle tour along the Royal-Imperial Route/ free tickets can be collected at the Cathedral Lock an hour before the event / +16.

Take part in a bike ride to the past. We will take our bicycles for a ride along the Royal-Imperial Route drawing inspiration from an over 100-year-old tradition of Poznań’s wheel-lovers. All you need is a good two-wheeler – either your own or borrowed. During the trip you will also learn how to ride a bicycle in the city centre to be safe and follow the road traffic regulations.

 

  • 5:oo p.m./ Cyganka Aza – film screening with live music/ free tickets can be collected on the day of the event/ PL/ ENG.

Come to the special screening of a film shot in Poznań over 90 years ago! Apart from the opportunity to admire the skills of the prewar actors and actresses, you will also have the pleasure to listen to the music composed for this film by Waldemar Rychły.

The exhibition presents five years of activities held by Porta Posnania through a collection of posters which have promoted our events: exhibitions, educational workshops, riverside events, May Picnics and Weekends with History on the Royal-Imperial Route.

  • 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m./ Obourreek. Polish – French Express – dance party and concert by musicians from France and Poland.

Obourreek is a musical project combining the tradition of the French bourree and Polish oberek which have a lot in common despite the distance between the two countries. Musicians from Poland and France invite you to join a dance event immersed in tradition.

 

  • 12:00 p.m./ Poznań Women Trail Tour in English/ starting point: plaza in front of the cathedral / +16.

Take part in a tour following the footsteps of Poznań women of various nationalities. We will take a closer look at the stories of women who lived in the city and had impact on its heritage. The tour is in English.

 

  • 1:00 p.m./ Slavic exercise for women – workshop/ sign up for the workshop at wydarzenia@bramapoznania.pl / +16/ PL/ ENG/ RU.

The workshop will take us to Eastern Europe where we will learn the basic techniques of the Slavic exercise. Slavic exercise  is a holistic approach to the work on the body and breath which was created for women by women. We will show you some of the poses and tell you where they came from and what kind of results you can expect from them.

How to cope with situations we encounter? This question will be answered by the inhabitants of the Cathedral Island from the past. An English-speaking guide will tell you about a difficult road to success in the 1000-year-old history of the Cathedral Island in Poznań.
